Abstract

A new class of novel 3-benzylidene-3-methyl-2, 6-diarylpiperidin-4-ones has been efficiently synthesized in the presence of eco friendly Montmorillonite clay catalyst by means of mannich reaction. The synthetic method provides the basis and advantages of a simple experimental procedure and easy recovery and reuse of catalyst, which makes it a highly practical and environmentally benign pathway for the synthesis of substituted 4-piperidones. Besides, the synthesized compounds were evaluated for their antibacterial and antifungal activities against a spectrum of microbial organisms.
